Once I apply for disability benefits, how long does it take to get a response from the Social Security Administration (SSA)?
It usually takes two to four months to get an answer to your initial request.
What is the appeals process?
There are two possible steps to the appeals process. Step one is called Reconsideration. Step two, if necessary is called Appeals Hearing.
When is the best time to apply for disability benefits?
The best time to apply for disability benefits is when you have been unable to work for at least 12 months due to physical and/or mental impairments.
Can my minor child, under age 18, get disability benefits?
Yes. A minor child can receive disability benefits if he or she meets the appropriate requirements.
How does my lawyer help with a disability appeal?
